Medspace was approached to design, manufacture and install all of the bespoke furniture, reception desks and storage in the new Milton Keynes Cancer Centre, delivered by the NHS ProCure22 Framework. The project aimed to streamline cancer care at Milton Keynes University Hospital by providing a designated site for cancer treatment and support. We are thrilled to be a part of such a transformative project which improved the experience of staff, patients and visitors.
Cleanliness and functionality were paramount in our design of Milton Keynes Cancer Centre. At the heart of the project lies Hanex Solid Surfaces, worktops made from a premium acrylic material renowned for its vast design possibilities and unparalleled performance. We used Hanex worktops because the customisability allowed maximised use of the space, such as the trapezium-shaped reception desk in the foyer. With the absence of joins in the surface, Hanex Solid Surface worktops are practical for a medical setting. They are easy to clean and non-porous, so they have antibacterial properties to enhance hygiene standards.
Nurse stations and reception desks are essential to any healthcare space as a point of contact for patients, visitors and healthcare staff. They demand an aesthetic that exudes warmth while maintaining clinical precision. We achieved this balance using the more clinical Hanex Solid Surfacing for ‘touch’ areas and lacquered wood veneers to the fascias creating a warmth within the design.
Using Hanex Solid Surface and our design experience, we transformed the efficiency of a clinical space into an environment that embraces patients, visitors and staff. The project outlines Medspace’s prowess and demonstrates the pivotal role of bespoke modular furniture and storage solutions in shaping healthcare experiences for the better.
